Creative Ways to Countdown to Christmas

December is almost upon us, and that means it’s time for Advent Calendars! There’s no better way to build up the excitement of Christmas than counting down the days with your family and loved ones. But perhaps you might like to countdown to Christmas a little differently this year, something other than the usual shop bought advents?

If you’re just as excited as us to be on the big festive countdown, keep reading! In this blog we’d like to share some unique countdown ideas that we have found online, as well as some of our own fantastic advent calendar products here at UK Christmas World!

We think this is a fantastic idea and would be great fun for kids! There’s a balloon for each day of the countdown and each balloon can be filled with all kinds of sweets, games, treats, puzzles etc. You can put just about anything into each day, use your imagination and cater to what your family would love! Suspend the balloons on a string across a room and it can also act as a fun, colourful decoration too

This looks like a great little DIY project. Paint the centre of a Christmassy plate in black chalkboard paint, where you can then write in your number of days for the countdown in chalk! Add your own festive decorations as seen below in the image, to create a lovely homemade decoration for your home. Practical and Stylish.

Here is another lovely idea – something a little bit different than the usual looking advent calendar! All the small gifts inside the packages can be completely different, or some the same, so each day of December can be a complete surprise! Think of something cool to wrap up for each day such as, sweet treats, small books, Christmas games and other small token gifts, anything really you think your kids will love, without spending too much and taking the glory away from Christmas morning!

This is fantastic!! A brilliant idea if you love a good hands-on, DIY project! Santa starts at the top of the chimney and for each day that passes you pull out one of the sticks. Gradually Santa drops a little lower until he reaches the bottom of the chimney on Christmas Eve, letting them know that's when Santa will be on his way! We think kids would love a fun countdown idea like this! Why not give it a try this year!

You could choose to create an advent that steers away from the usual chocolate or sweets offering, and move towards an idea such as these ‘to do’ cards. Inside the envelopes they hold instructions of a Christmas activity such as ‘watch a Christmas movie’ or ‘bake Christmas cookies’. This is a lovely way to surprise the kids, and you’ll get to spend quality time as a family at the same time! Tailor these to the things you know you and your family will love doing together, and each day that you countdown you can all look forward to something fun to do!
