Will a timer affect the memory on Christmas Lights?
This is something we get asked by our customers on a daily basis.
We decided to put a set of our LED Christmas lights to the test! Here’s what we discovered.
Multi-function Christmas lights come with a built in controller allowing you to select from a range of patterns, including static, slow fade, twinkle and flash.
Everyone tends to have a pattern they prefer. When plugging directly into a standard socket around the home when the lights are turned off most Christmas lights will store the last pattern into the built in memory. Once the lights are turned back on they will revert to this saved pattern.
When adding a timer (either manual or digital) between the electrical socket and the transformer this does interfere with the lights memory function meaning that the set will not save the last pattern used and will instead revert back to the factory settings and the first pattern in the sequence.
