Christmas Markets in Yorkshire

Christmas markets are traditionally held for the four weeks of advent in towns and cities all around the world. They are an opportunity to shop for food, drinks and seasonal gifts whilst experiencing other countries’ cultures. Christingle markets originated from German speaking European countries including dating back to the 1200’s but are now more popular in the UK than ever!  

Here at UK Christmas World, our offices are based in Yorkshire, so we thought we’d find you the best Christmas markets in the northern county. Why not take a look and see if you fancy any of these with your family and friends this Christmas – there’s no harm in planning early after all!



Sheffield Christmas market will take place from the 13th November to the 24th December in the city centre. Traditional wooden log cabins will be offering a large selection of Christmas treats and gifts, with a special wooden Lapland cabin especially for Santa so bring the kids along!

The Leeds German Christkindelmrkt is one of the most established Christmas markets in the UK and runs this year from 11th November until 18th December. It has been celebrated for almost 15 years and is visited by thousands of tourists every year. There is an abundance of stalls selling beautiful decorations and handmade ornaments. The large carousel is always a popular attraction along with the city centre outdoor skating rink; people can feel festive and enjoy all the seasonal activities.


Harrogate Christmas market is set in one of the most beautiful cities in the north. The 4 day market will take place from the 17th to the 20th of November. The market will feature a variety of entertainment from bands and busking groups to fun fair rides and attractions. There are almost 200 stalls selling everything from cheeses and chutneys to handmade gifts and decorations. We’re sure you’ll find something special to take home!

York hosts the St Nicholas Christmas festival starting from the 19th of November until Christmas. There will be over 100 cosy little chalets decorated with beautiful little fairy lights selling seasonal produce and handcrafted gifts. In this beautiful city the Christmas market is a real hit year after year!

Father Christmas will make a special visit to Bedale Christmas Festival which is taking place from the 19th of November to mid-December. The will be lots of crafting opportunities and activities for children to part take in as well as plenty of stalls for adults to enjoy too. It is a real family orientated Christmas festival and will be a great place to do your Christmas shopping this year.


Bridlington
Dickensian Festival will be taking place in the old seaside town and comprises of over 60 stalls. Stalls will be positioned on the high street and in the market place selling a variety of Christmas gifts and crafts. Visitors can enjoy the variety of entertainment on offer, including brass bands, choirs and Father Christmas making a surprise appearance along with his elves and reindeers.

Whitby Christmas craft fair will take place on the weekend of the 19th and 20th of November, there will be over 35 stalls of arts, crafts, jewellery, ceramics and locally produced cheeses and chutneys for visitors to enjoy. A visit from Santa will make your day complete along with a little ride on the pony trap. The Country Living Magazine Craft Fair will be held in Harrogate will take place from the 1st to the 4th of December. The event will comprise of Christmas interior design inspiration, cooking demonstrations of how to prepare the perfect Christmas dinner. The event showcases locally produced merchandise and British products which will make perfect gifts for Christmas presents.

 

Knaresborough Christmas market is set in beautiful picturesque location, the seasonal market will stock a large variety of regional specialities and locally produced products. There will be a variety of entertainment throughout the day consisting of street performers, brass bands, choirs and a special visit from Father Christmas.


We feel that we are very lucky in the Yorkshire area to have so many wonderful events practically on our doorstep.
