How is Tinsel Made?

It’s one of the world’s favourite Christmas trimmings, we add it to our Christmas trees or hang separately in their own festive displays, perhaps in window displays, or around home furnishings. It’s such a versatile decoration as it’s available in a rainbow of colours, shapes, styles and lengths so tinsel is great for all kinds of Christmas décor!

Tinsel is one of those items where we wonder “how is it made?”
Well now we can let you in on a true British secret.

Our fantastic tinsel items come from a factory here in the UK! Tinsel manufacturing began in Wales over 25 years ago after a brand named ‘Festive’ purchased two tinsel machines from Germany. Since the early days ‘Festive’ have become one of the premium Tinsel brands and now produce over £3 million worth of Tinsel every Christmas.

The ‘Festive’ tinsel factory is one of the few remaining Christmas manufacturing companies in Europe. During their peak season they employ more than 100 people, and produce 80,000 metres of tinsel in just 24 hours! That’s enough tinsel to go around the world and back several times!

Tinsel that comes from China can spend weeks stuffed inside boxes and suffers from the heat and moisture once loaded into a container. This means the quality of the tinsel can be reduced by the time it reaches us in UK.

By manufacturing here in the UK, ‘Festive’ are able to eliminate the above risk. They are also able to reproduce a whole range of colours and styles, including all core and fashion colours. The raw material used to make the tinsel originates in Europe so can be easily obtained and cross matched to pantone colours.

Tinsel can also be incorporated into other products, many of which we stock on our UK Christmas World website! Why not add our Holly Pine and Tinsel Wreath to your Christmas displays this festive season? This decoration also comes complete with lights, so all you have to do is pop in your batteries and enjoy! Made with traditional festive colours this item is ideal for all kinds of homes and décor.
