What We All Look Forward To, The 2015 Christmas Markets!

Here in the UK we love a good Christmas Market! What better way to get well and truly into the Christmas spirit than to spend a winter evening meandering around little festive market stalls. Each year thousands of us flock to Christmas markets all over the country, so here are some of Britain’s favourites.

Here are a handful of Christmas markets in the Yorkshire area, so you could always tie in an evening of Christmas shopping after visiting us here at UK Christmas World!


Leeds Christkindelmarkt

This event is one of the most established German markets in the UK, and is an incredibly popular ‘pop-up’ event, attracting hundreds and thousands of people every year. Featuring over 40 traditional wooden stalls selling classic German goods such as handcrafted toys, jewellery, Christmas cards, speciality food and drinks and much more. There are not only the stalls at the Christkindelmarkt, but twinkling light displays and decorations, a carousel ride and festive music to enjoy too. The perfect start to your Christmas with something for all the family to enjoy.

York Christmas Market

Bringing something special to the city of York again this year is their Christmas Fayre. Each year local producers of the finest food and drink, Christmas decorations, traditional gifts and crafts and much more, are all set up in festive wooden cabins in the city centre. Surrounded by the already very popular high street stores, cafes and restaurants of York, not to mention the castle and the Minster, the setting of York Christmas Fayre makes it a prefect day out for all the family, and a great opportunity to get all your Christmas shopping done!

Harrogate Christmas Market

Nestled in the heart of the town is the annual festive celebration known as Harrogate Christmas Market. Whether you’re looking for a Christmas gift for someone special, a treat for yourself, or for something great for your home, you’re bound to find it here. With stalls offering the best locally produced goods such as festive food and drinks, handmade gifts, home accessories and much more, there’s something to suit everyone’s taste and budget. There is so much going on away from the market stalls such as fun fair rides for the kids, live Christmas music as well as visits to see the big man Santa Claus himself! With all the other independent shops, café’s and hotels so nearby, this is a festive event that you can make a weekend of with the whole family!

Manchester Christmas Market

Attracting visitors from all over the UK and beyond, over 300 stalls at Manchester Christmas Market keep guests returning year after year. The chalet lined streets have so much to offer, including gifts, crafts, jewellery, toys, festive food and drink, there are surprises around every corner, and a perfect spot to pick up a unique Christmas gift for someone special! Treat yourself to a yummy snack to keep you warm on a chilly winter evening from stalls offering cuisines from all around Europe. This event is perfect for children and adults alike, there really is something for everyone at this world famous Christmas event.

Edinburgh’s Christmas

For the last 20 years Edinburgh hosts one of the best Christmas markets in the UK. With all the traditional stalls you would expect to see at a European Christmas market, there is so much to see and do. Take a stroll through the chalets set up in the city centre and enjoy the delights of arts and crafts, gift shops and festive food and drink, there is something for everyone! Alongside the European Christmas market are the Children’s Market and the Scottish Market. Youngsters can enjoy their very own child friendly stalls such as face painting, shopping opportunities and Christmas crafts in Santa Land, and the Scottish Market offers the very best of locally sourced festive produce, where you could pick up a unique Christmas gift for someone special or a treat yourself to a souvenir. With so much to offer, no wonder Edinburgh’s Christmas is one of the nation’s favourites!

Birmingham

In Birmingham you will find the largest German market outside of Germany and Austria, showcasing over 180 stalls selling gifts, decorations, jewellery, tasty German delicacies and handmade toys. As well as all the wonderful stalls to explore there are other attractions running alongside the German market such as fun fair rides, singing along with the Christmas Moose – lots of fun for all the family, and listening to carol singers. With the great central location of the German market, why not make a weekend of the event and take advantage of the many fantastic hotels nearby.
