The Countdown to Cosy Starts Here
The Countdown to Cosy Starts Here
There comes a point every summer when you notice the evenings getting just a little bit darker. The sun starts setting earlier, there’s the occasional chill in the air and suddenly the thought of blankets, warm drinks and evenings spent at home doesn’t sound too bad at all.
We’re not wishing summer away just yet, but cosy season is certainly starting to peek around the corner.
Here at UK Christmas World, September also brings something particularly exciting as Christmas pre-orders begin making their way to customers. If you’ve already got a festive delivery to look forward to, August is the perfect opportunity to have another think about your plans. Is there an empty window that could use a little sparkle? A front door waiting for its finishing touch? Or perhaps you’ve planned the main event but forgotten those little essentials that make decorating day run much more smoothly?
And if you’re not quite ready for Christmas yet, we understand. That’s why we’re easing into things gently.
From colourful retro lights that can brighten late summer evenings to glowing wreaths, cosy wooden decorations and warm white garden lights, plenty of festive favourites can bring a little magic to autumn too.
So, while we wait for those Christmas pre-orders to arrive, let’s make the most of the season in between. The countdown to cosy starts right here.
Let There Be Cosy Light
You don’t need a Christmas tree in the corner to justify switching on the fairy lights.
As the evenings gradually draw in, decorative lighting is one of the easiest ways to make your home feel a little warmer and more inviting. Our 80 LED Canterbury Bell Multi Coloured Retro Christmas Lights are a wonderfully nostalgic way to do exactly that.
With their colourful Canterbury Bell design, these retro Christmas lights bring plenty of personality to a room without needing to wait for December. They can add a playful glow to late summer gatherings before moving indoors as the weather cools, ready to become part of your Christmas decorations when the festive season finally arrives.
Retro lights also offer something a little different from traditional warm white Christmas lights. Their multi coloured glow can introduce colour to otherwise neutral spaces, add character to seasonal displays and bring back memories of classic Christmas decorating when the time eventually comes to dress the tree.
For anyone planning their festive lighting ahead of September, it’s also worth thinking beyond the branches. Christmas lights can transform windows, shelves and other areas around the home, whilst string lights, cluster lights and battery operated lights offer plenty of options for spaces of different shapes and sizes.
And when your Christmas tree does eventually make its grand entrance? The Canterbury Bells will be more than ready.
Until then, we see absolutely nothing wrong with borrowing a little of their glow for autumn.
Wreathing in the New Season
Who decided wreaths should only have their moment in December?
As autumn approaches, wreaths can be a beautiful way to mark the changing seasons before the full Christmas decorating begins. Deep colours, warm lighting and natural textures all work wonderfully at this time of year, which makes our 58cm Antique Gold and Black Christmas Wreath with 3000 Gold LEDs an eye-catching choice for the transition into the darker months.
The combination of black detailing and antique gold light gives this wreath a very different feel from the traditional green foliage, berries and bows often associated with Christmas wreaths. That makes it particularly easy to imagine amongst an autumn-inspired display, where warm metallic tones can complement the richer colours that begin appearing as summer comes to an end.
As the season moves on, the styling around it can move with it. What begins as a warm autumn display can gradually become more festive with the introduction of garlands, Christmas lights and other seasonal decorations.
It’s also a lovely reminder that preparing for Christmas doesn’t necessarily mean decorating your entire home in August. Choosing a few pieces that work across the changing seasons means you can enjoy them before the Christmas countdown truly gets underway, then give them a festive refresh when you’re ready.
Whether you love a traditional Christmas wreath, something snowy and wintry or a more contemporary illuminated design, your front door and surrounding spaces offer plenty of room to start setting the scene.
Consider this your official permission to get a little bit cosy before Christmas arrives.
Home Is Where the Glow Is
Once darker evenings start creeping in, there’s something particularly lovely about little pockets of warm light around the home.
The 47cm Battery Operated Wooden Village with Jute Rope Christmas Tree captures that feeling beautifully. With its wooden village design and jute rope Christmas tree, it brings a softer, more natural look to seasonal decorating and doesn’t need an entire festive display surrounding it to feel at home.
Before Christmas arrives, a decorative village can become part of an autumn arrangement on a shelf, sideboard or other indoor display area. Pairing natural textures with the warm atmosphere of seasonal lighting is an easy way to acknowledge the changing seasons without jumping straight from summer into full festive mode.
Then, when you are ready to start bringing out the Christmas decorations, the same piece can settle naturally amongst your festive favourites.
Being battery operated also makes decorations like this useful when styling areas where access to mains power may be less convenient. Battery lights and smaller illuminated decorations can bring a gentle glow to little corners of the home, creating cosy focal points without needing to completely rearrange a room around the nearest plug socket.
This is also where some of the smaller details can really begin to shine. A softly lit decoration on a sideboard, a few fairy lights around a window or a seasonal display on a mantelpiece can completely change the atmosphere of a room as those brighter summer evenings disappear.
There’s plenty of time for Christmas trees, baubles and tinsel - For now, we’re quite happy with a warm glow, a cosy evening and the first little hint that our favourite season is getting closer.
Follow the Lights
As summer evenings become autumn evenings, outdoor lighting starts to come into its own.
Our Set of 4 Large 1m Twig Pathfinder Lights with 384 Warm White LEDs are a perfect example of outdoor Christmas lights that don't necessarily need to feel Christmassy from the moment they appear. With their twig-style design and warm white glow, they can bring light and interest to paths, gardens, walkways and borders as the evenings begin drawing in.
Each set includes four 1m twig lights with 96 LEDs per light, creating 384 warm white LEDs across the complete display. Suitable for indoor and outdoor use, they're a lovely way to brighten the journey towards an entrance or add a little glow amongst an outdoor display.
And this is where planning ahead can really pay off...
Before the colder weather properly arrives, take a wander around your garden and think about the areas you'd like to illuminate later in the year. Perhaps there's a pathway that could use a warm welcome, a border you'd like to highlight or an area that's just waiting for a little sparkle. Path lights, outdoor string lights, silhouettes and other garden lighting can all work together to create different levels of light rather than concentrating everything in one place.
Then, as autumn gives way to winter, you can gradually build around them. Introduce your favourite Christmas garden decorations, outdoor figures or perhaps a light up reindeer and suddenly those cosy autumn lights have become part of something wonderfully festive.
Who knew the path to Christmas could be quite so literal?
Don't Get Hung Up on the Little Things
You've chosen your Christmas lights. You've decided exactly where they're going. You might even have a beautifully organised decorating plan ready to go. Then you reach the window and realise you've forgotten one rather important detail - how are you putting them up?
Our Pack of 24 Fairy Light Suction Cup Clips might not be the biggest or sparkliest item on your Christmas list, but they're exactly the sort of practical accessory that's easy to overlook until decorating day arrives.
Designed to help attach fairy lights to windows and other smooth surfaces, these handy little suction cups can help make creating your Christmas window display much simpler. Whether you're planning twinkling fairy lights, colourful string lights or a glowing window arrangement, having your lighting accessories ready beforehand means there's one less thing to think about when the decorations finally come out.
August is actually the perfect time to consider these smaller details. Whilst you're waiting for your pre-order to arrive, look back over the decorations you've chosen and think about what you'll need to display them. Check where your lights will go, measure your spaces and make sure you've remembered any accessories you'll need along the way.
Because nothing interrupts the excitement of decorating quite like discovering you're missing the one tiny thing that makes the whole plan work. Future you will be very glad you thought ahead.
September, We're Ready for You
And just like that, September is almost here.
Soon, pre-orders will begin making their way to excited UK Christmas World customers and all those decorating ideas that have been quietly forming throughout the year can finally start coming together.
But there's no need to rush past autumn to get there.
There are still crisp evenings, changing leaves and plenty of cosy nights to enjoy before Christmas truly takes centre stage. That's the beauty of choosing decorations that can gently bridge the seasons. The colourful glow of the retro multi coloured Canterbury Bell lights, the warm tones of the antique gold and black wreath with its golden LEDs, the charming wooden village Christmas tree and the soft illumination of the large twig pathfinder lights can all help create that first hint of cosiness before the main festive decorating begins.
Then there are the little things. Having your Fairy Light Suction Cup Clips tucked away ready for decorating day might not feel quite as exciting as unboxing a Christmas tree, but you'll certainly appreciate them when the time comes.
And when you are ready to let Christmas properly arrive, that's when the unmistakably festive favourites can begin making an appearance.
Our Set of Five InLit Festive Robins Christmas Acrylic Lights are a particularly charming way to welcome the season. Five illuminated robins perched together bring a cheerful winter touch to a garden display, whether they're nestled amongst other Christmas acrylics or given their own little spot to shine.
Robins, woodland animals, light up reindeer and other outdoor Christmas figures are also a lovely way to add personality to a display once you've established your main lighting. They're those final details that can turn a collection of decorations into a scene that feels completely your own.
So, if you've got a Christmas pre-order arriving this September, now is the perfect time for one last look at your decorating plans. Think about the lights, the smaller accessories and those finishing touches you might have forgotten, then sit back and enjoy the anticipation.
Summer may be slowly winding down, but there's plenty to look forward to. The leaves will change, the evenings will grow darker and before we know it, those Christmas boxes will be arriving at the door.
Until then, we’ll be here helping you get cosy for the Autumn season ahead.
