20 Christmas Songs we Couldn't Live Without – Part One

Nothing says Christmas like a sing along to a few traditional Christmas songs; although here at UK Christmas World we couldn’t settle on just a few Christmas songs, we couldn’t even settle on our top 10. So, here’s our top 20 Christmas songs that every family celebrating Christmas needs for a truly traditional and memorable Christmas.

#20: Christmas All Over Again – Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers

We begin our list with a very contemporary family favourite that you may have heard in a variety of stores and even in some Christmas themed films. This song explains the band’s feelings towards Christmas and how they grow tired of the celebrations.

#19: Christmas Lights – Coldplay

Although Coldplay are a popular band there are relatively few people that have heard of their modern but beautiful song ‘Christmas Lights’.

#18: Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire – Nat King Cole

This is a fairly old song by Nat King Cole but it is still an interesting song where Nat King Cole expresses his feelings regarding the Christmas Celebrations. A wonderful Christmas song for those that are not religious.

#17: Winter Wonderland – Doris Day

Although there are numerous versions of this song we believe that Doris Day has produced the best version of this song. A brilliant song that describes the type of scene that you would expect to find on an idyllic Christmas card; a song for the older generations to enjoy.

#16: Last Christmas – Wham

A song of heartbreak and tragedy as the lead singer of Wham explains how he fell in love at Christmas but the relationship was not to be. This is one of the more traditional songs that you would expect to find playing in a store near you.

#15: Wonderful Christmastime – Paul McCartney

Sir Paul McCartney is well known for his admirable attempts at producing Christmas themed music, even if the majority of his songs can be themed around the religious aspects of Christmas. If you haven’t yet heard Paul McCartney’s Wonderful Christmastime we recommend that you take the time to give it a listen, you won’t regret it!

#14: Jingle Bell Rock – Bobby Vee

A very fast paced and mischievous sounding Christmas song – this tune is perfect for uplifting your spirits and getting you into the right mood for decorating the tree or wrapping some presents. If you do not recognise this version of the song you may wish to check out the version that was performed during the making of the film Mean Girls.

#13: All I Want for Christmas is You – Mariah Carey

Mariah Carey has very interesting voice and it shows in some of the pieces that she has produced, including this particular song. If you’re looking for a romantic song to share with your partner this is ideal.

#12: Pipes of Peace – Paul McCartney

This simple but catchy tune is possibly one of the best that was ever produced by Sir Paul McCartney. If you can’t sing along to this beautiful little song you may want to consider whether you should really be listening to Christmas music!

#11: Little Drummer Boy – Jackson 5

There is something magical about listening to the Jackson 5 pour their hearts out through this song. I feel that I could not have a happy Christmas if I had not listened to this song at least once before the 25th of December.

That’s the end of the first half of our top twenty Christmas song of all time! Stay tuned for the second half, you may be surprised by what you find!
