Christmas in Summer- Party Ideas

Christmas is one of the most loved holidays of the year and is so much fun, with endless ways to get all of the family involved in the festivities. Why not throw a Christmas party during the summer months; combining all the major traditions of Christmas and the features of summer that everyone loves, it’s the best of both worlds!

July 25th would be an ideal time to host a Christmas party in the summer, as it is exactly half way to the real thing! Get all your family or friends around to your place to enjoy all the festivities minus the stress and hassle everyone dreads!

1) First Things First – Invitations:

Take extra care when creating your invitations for your guests, they will know then they have been asked to a really special event! You could put your computer skills to the test and create your own personalised invites to be printed, an easy and cost effective method. You could also get creative and go all out by hand delivering the invitations, attaching the event information to a snow shovel or preparing a ‘Santa’s Sack’ with the invitation inside and other novelty items – perhaps a yummy festive taster from your party menu or Christmas headwear they need bring with them! Place the invitations by their door to leave them with a nice surprise!

2) Drag out Those Christmas Decorations…

Even though it may be hot and sunny outside, decorate your place to make your home a little winter wonderland and leave your guests ‘wowed’. As the sun starts to set fairy lights are always an easy yet totally effective option, scatter them around the living room- over light fittings, fireplace, door and window frames are just a few examples and will leave your home feeling cosy and festive.

Take a look at the fairy lights available here at UK Christmas World to help you to recreate this look.
Such as the
50 Warm White Traditional LED Fairy Lights for just £9.99

You can go completely traditional incorporating the red and green theme, wrap up and trim empty boxes to make them look like Christmas gifts and place them underneath the tree, a simple idea that would look effective. Also make your own snowballs that won’t melt in the July sun – buy polystyrene balls, coat in clear glue and dust with glitter, and scatter around the house or garden. Or go with a more contemporary style, similar to the idea pictured above, which shows an impressive way to dress your table. A small tree of lights that can be trimmed underneath too can look great as a centrepiece during your meal.

We have an affordable selection of decorations similar to these at UK Christmas World including our Battery Operated Cherry Blossom Tree (white LED’s) 35cm just £5.99

Or the Pre Lit 40cm Dark Brown Twig with 16 White LED Lights just £3.99

To keep the party spirit going make sure you have some Christmas tunes on in the background, great for the kids who can have a dance around while the adults finish off the drink and chat at the table! However you decide to decorate your home it will be sure to get everyone in the festive spirit.

 3) Prepare a Yummy Christmas Menu!

Depending on the formalities and size of your party you can decide how you want to serve your food to your guests. If you are going for a more casual, family orientated get-together with more than around 10 guests, a finger food buffet may be ideal. Christmas inspired snacks such as ham and turkey sandwiches, pigs in blanket, mince pies (of course!), mini trifles and Christmas pudding inspired treats, not forgetting other buffet classics such as sausage rolls, pork pies and pizza. You could even include the BBQ if the weather holds out! Remember to cater for everyone keeping the food varied, ensuring there are plenty of snacks available including vegetarian options if needed!

Are you planning on an adults only party? If so you may be able to really push the boat out a go for a more formal sit-down meal and serve a well rounded Christmas themed meal. Get creative and serve Christmas cocktails after the dinner party incorporating well-known festive tipples such as mulled wine and eggnog.

4) Keep Your Guests Entertained:

Make sure you plan in advance different ways to have fun with your guests particularly if there are children attending. Little Christmas themed party games will go down a treat:

Christmas Memory Game – place festive items on a tray and give guests 1 minute to memorise them, and then write down as many as they can remember!

Pass the Christmas Parcel

Christmas Carol Charades

Pin the Red Nose on Rudolph

Photo Booth – provide guests with silly props and go crazy in front of the camera! Photos will be a brilliant keepsake post-party too

Everyone loves a party bag (even the grown ups)! Wrap up a little something for your guests to take home with them, perhaps a sweet treat, e.g. Christmas cake bites/cake pops, Christmas cookies or wrapped sweets. If you can get the photos printed by the end of the night they would also be a lovely souvenir of the evening’s events!

Summer Christmas parties are a unique and fun way of getting family and friends together, and a great excuse to celebrate the season a second time around! It doesn’t need to be an expensive affair, get the children involved in helping to prepare, getting them into the festive spirit too!
