Christmas Light Shows in the USA

Christmas is one of the most loved festivals all around the world and America is definitely no exception, they have some of the most magnificent Christmas Light displays all over the country. Here are just a few displays we thought we would share with you to give you a taste of the American holiday season.

 

Texas
Trail of Lights

Located in Zilker Park, Austin, Texas, the Trail of Lights has been running since the 1960’s and has been a very popular attraction year after year. As well as the magical lighting features on show there is local entertainment, as well as live music and food. Running from the evenings at the end of November to the end of December the Trail of Lights is a big hit with families, as there is such a range of Christmas lights to see, from traditional festive characters to your favourite Disney movies!


Missouri

Silver Dollar City

At Silver Dollar City, Branson, Missouri, it’s not just the Christmas lights you’ll be wanting to see. Over the festive season they go all out with lights, Christmas trees, Broadway style productions, a Christmas parade, Christmas shops and festive food! Visiting Branson’s popular theme park for their ‘Old Time Christmas’ festival, you won’t be short of things to do that’s for sure! With so much to see, you could spend hours just walking around the beautifully lit buildings themselves, so visitors are advised to allow more time for their trip than usual. All the Christmas fun can be enjoyed here from 1st November and runs right through to the 30th December, and really is a festive celebration for all the family!

  

Denver
Denver Botanic Gardens

The ‘Blossoms of Light’ event is the perfect way to kick start the Christmas season. A favourite family event in Colorado, the lights at the Denver Botanic Gardens features new attractions for this year. As well as the Christmas lights creatively scattered around plants and trees in the gardens, there will be warm drinks on offer, tasty treats and seasonal entertainment. Other favourite attractions at the event include the ice sculptures and lovers’ kissing spots just off the main path! This event runs from the end of November right up to the beginning of January so there is plenty of time to plan a visit with the family.  


Florida
Disney Hollywood studios

The Osbourne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights has been a favourite seasonal event in Orlando for years. Featuring over 5 million lights it’s one of the most dazzling displays in Florida, we all know Disney don’t do things by halves! In 1995 Disney acquired the Christmas Lights created by Jennings Osbourne for his park, and every year since has added more magical features to the display, meaning this year they will be more magnificent than ever. The event which expects thousands of visitors each season, runs right through to the 4th January, and as a bonus, admission to the lights is now included in your regular park admission! Plan a magical festive visit to Disney for all the family, tying in a visit to the amusement park, and then spend the evening taking in the dazzling displays of Christmas lights. Fun for all the family!


West Virginia

Winter Festival of Lights

Held in the Ogelby Resort, Wheeling, the enchanting displays of Christmas Lights have been open to the public since 1985. This drive through display stretches over 6 miles and 300 acres, so is the nation’s largest! This award winning event grows in size each year adding more and more magical light shows for all to enjoy. Not only does it feature more than 80 huge light sculptures, there are the Gardens of Lights, Rainbow Tunnels, a dining hall offering a festive buffet, as well as shops and a marketplace to pick up a souvenir. Open until 10pm, or 11pm on weekends, it’s the perfect venue for a festive evening out for all the family.


Kentucky

Louisville Mega Cavern

Each year the Louisville Mega Cavern is lit up for a memorising drive through Christmas Light spectacle. Load all the family into the car and take a cruise through the magical underground cavern. There are over 850 lit characters and over 2 million lights to discover, and is the only event of its kind on the planet! Open until 10pm it’s the perfect evening entertainment for all ages. With a ton of brilliant reviews it’s the ideal event to get the family all excited for Christmas.


Tennessee
Enchanted Garden of Lights

Rock City Gardens’ top traditional event is held every year in the outskirts of Tennessee, and is about to celebrate its 20th Anniversary. Look out for Inara the Ice Queen, the Dancing Forest, Gingerbread Cookie Decorating, Dinner with Santa and much much more. Opening this year to the public from the end of November right through to the beginning of January, it’s the perfect trip for the family to really kick start your Christmas celebrations. This is a favourite annual event where families and friends come together to create magical memories that will last a lifetime, guaranteed to get everyone in the holiday mood!
