Recipes For Traditional Non-Alcoholic Christmas Drinks
Just because you are the designated driver or have several children in the house at Christmas, doesn’t mean that you should miss out on enjoying a wonderful winter warmer.
- 4 tablespoons espresso coffee
- 2 tablespoons gingerbread flavoured syrup
- 120ml steamed milk
- 2 tablespoons whipped cream
- 1 pinch ground nutmeg
- 1 pinch ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla powder
Mix together the espresso coffee with the gingerbread syrup and then pour in the steamed milk. Generously top with whipped cream and dust with cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla powder. This is perfect for if you have visitors during the day or if you just fancy a festive, kick of caffeine early in the morning.
Christmas Cider Sparkler:
Sparkling cider is a non-alcoholic mixer – you can pair it with practically anything. In this case, mix blackcurrant or cranberry juice with lemon juice and then add the sparkling cider. Splash over ice and garnish with lemon peel. This drink is great if you have guests who are driving or children who are bored of Coca Cola!
Something to make your coffee a little more interesting…
Make your own chocolate stirrers! Melt your favourite chocolate – you can always mix it with some orange zest – and pour into a Christmas themed mould such as a Santa or a Christmas tree. Use a lollipop stick to place in the middle of the chocolate ensuring that the part of the stick in the chocolate is fully submerged. Then chill these in your fridge, allowing plenty of time for them to set. These chocolate stirrers are wonderful dunked in your coffee and make a great treat (or distraction!) for children.
Keep It Hot This Winter:
Treat yourself to a homemade hot chocolate – put down the instant powder mix! Nothing can beat a good old fashioned hot chocolate. Heat a vanilla pod (including the seeds), a cinnamon stick and 1 litre of milk in a pan. Turn off the heat and then add in small pieces of chocolate. Keep stirring until they melt. Whisk until the mixture is frothy and add sugar if necessary. Serve in some glass mugs and sprinkle with nutmeg and grated chocolate.
