Ways to Get Into the Christmas Spirit

If you're like us here at UK Christmas World, it's never too early to get in the festive spirit! With the colder weather approaching and December getting nearer and nearer, we think now is a great time to plan how you're going to get in the Christmas mood with the family this year!

Christmas can be one of the busiest times of the year and it can be quite easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle, preventing us from enjoying all the seasonal festivities. However, we want you to make the most out the wintry time of year and relax as much as possible. Your spare time should be spent with family and friends doing the things you love, whether that’s watching a Christmas movie, taking a wintry stroll in the country or simple listening to some traditional Christmas songs! In this blog we share some great ideas that will get you feeling really Christmassy!

Find the perfect Christmas Tree!

Get all the family together and piled into the car and go on a search for a fantastic Christmas tree to stand proud in your house this festive season. There will be many tree farms around you when the time comes but it may take some time for everyone to agree on their favourite!

If a real Christmas tree is not for you, check out our great range of Artificial Trees available now on our website. Whether it be a slim tree, pre-lit or pop-up, we have an amazing variety, there’ll be something for everyone!

Creative Christmas Countdown

We have all had the regular advent calendars at some point over the festive season, but why not get the whole family excited counting down to the big day with something a little different? Why not make a paper chain with each day of December written on, an exciting way for kids to see how many days to go before Santa arrives!

Here at UK Christmas World we have a lovely range of countdowns including wooden advents, hanging buckets and countdown blocks, why not take a look today?

Watch a Christmas Movie

This must be one of the nation’s favourite ways to enjoy Christmas time! Get the family together with some snacks and drinks and enjoy a cosy night in watching a favourite family film. Here are some of our top movies, is your favourite here?

  • It’s a Wonderful Life
  • A White Christmas
  • A Miracle on 34th Street
  • Elf
  • The Grinch
  • A Christmas Carol
  • The Santa Clause
  • The Polar Express

Handmade Gifts

While you’re in a creative mood, you may want to take the option of making some homemade gifts for family and friends this year. Recipients of your presents will be extra impressed and will be very grateful of the obvious extra time and effort you will have put into surprising them!

Typical handmade gift ideas include sweet treats, beauty products, snow globes, candles and photo frames, but there is plenty of inspiration out there, just a quick internet search away!

Maybe you want to try some handmade cards too? Again these don’t have to be expensively made, you can cut up old cards you have received from previous years, and basic craft items can be bought with little cost at all, and can turn into some fantastic results!

Throw a Christmas Party

Christmas time is the best time of year to spend lots of time with loved ones. What better way to get in the festive mood than getting family and friends together and celebrating the season together! Prepare some fun family games, some tasty festive treats and simply enjoy the company of your favourite people at this time of year!

Christmas is a Time for Giving

Christmas can be a hard time for many, lots are people do not get the privileges like a lot of us, such as giving and receiving gifts, a full kitchen of tasty festive treats or lovely decorations, so why not spend some time and teach children too, to give back to the community and help people lees fortunate.

Why not make up a hamper full of lots of wonderful things for a local family and deliver to a charity or shelter, there is sure to be someone on the other end who is incredibly grateful. Also, why not search online for some other great Christmas charity schemes such as Operation Christmas Child, where a shoebox of gifts gets flown across the world to a child who may be living in harsh conditions, or who is generally less fortunate than ourselves. Let's not forget the true meaning of Christmas this year.

Listen to Christmas Music!

There is nothing that will put people in the Christmas mood quicker than listening to some traditional festive tunes! As soon as you hear those first few notes of your favourite track, all those happy, fuzzy, festive feeling come rushing back! Here are some great Christmas songs that will do just the trick. What are your favourite songs?

  • Bing Crosby – White Christmas
  • Nat King Cole – The Christmas Song
  • Burl Ives – Holly Jolly Christmas
  • Bing Crosby – It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas
  • Johnny Mathis – Sleigh Ride
  • Andy Williams – The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

If it’s an album you’re after we love Michael Buble’s Christmas album too!

Pantomime!

This is another favourite tradition over the Christmas season… ‘oh yes it is!’

There will be many theatres close to you that will be showing pantomimes this year. They’re a great family activity for the Christmas season telling traditional stories of princes, fairy godmothers, evil queens, magic and happy-ever-afters!

Why not plan a trip this year? Younger children especially will love this Christmassy evening out at the theatre!

Enjoy a Festive Hot Drink

When the weather turns even colder there’s nothing that warms your insides more than a yummy hot drink! Prepare hot chocolate for the family or the festive favourites – mulled wine and eggnog! These seasonal drinks are best enjoyed cosy in front of the TV or in a comfy corner of the house with a good book!

Christmas Decorating

Get all cosy with the family at home serving up some mugs of hot chocolate and other festive treats, and get stuck in with decorating your home. Kids especially can get involved with trimming the tree and if you have ornaments of sentimental value you can spend time explaining where they all came from. You could even get crafty and start to make your own handmade Christmas decorations, again family members of all ages can get involved with a bit of creative fun! Get some Christmas songs on in the background, we can’t think of anything better to get you all feeling properly festive!
